How To Tell If A Song Is Metal

Sign in to disble this ad
So, you're in your buddies house, with some other friends and someone plays a song, or brings it up or what have you. Then, someone pops the question:

"Is this song metal?"

You wish you could give a straight forward answer, but to no avail. You must plumb the unfathomable depths of metal sub-genres and culture to make an accurate statement, wasting precious time, and looking like a prententious jerk.

Fear no more! This one question will in turn answer theirs.

Simply ask, "Can you kill a dragon to it?"

And there is your answer to whether or not the song is metal.

If you have the instinct to bang your head to it, it's metal.

Of course, I'd love to hear a metal version of this tune...

I think the only thing that makes it metal is a certain bass.

I'm sure you all already know it, so I won't bother wasting anymore space telling you what it is.

to determine a songs metal-tude, I usually ask my self the question "how many people could I punch to this song?"
it is then gauged on a scale of one person to ten people, ten being the most metal.

ie. "through the fire and flames" gets, at most, three people, while "keelhauled" gets about six. ten would be reserved for such tunes as "hammer smashed face".

of course, this is all related to my "taste", kind of ironic when used in the context of metal, I know, but we all have some sense of "taste", what we tend to lack is "class".

A song is metal when you grow a beard and long hair when listening to it, and get the insatiable urge to raid small coastal west-european villages.

I gauge metal on how aggressive a song makes me drive.

You'll know you're metal when your drop tuning is so brutalz that the Dark Lord Sauron and his army of Orcs kneel before your mighty power.
