I play bass, guitar, saxophone, accordian, piano, drums, blah blah blah. They're all just as easy/hard. It just depends on what you play and how you play it. Who cares if people think what we do is easy, swallow your pride and keep doing what you like.

I play both and still will fight to the death that the guitar is harder, but my question is:

Why does it matter? Music is about creating something why does it matter how difficult it is? Isnt it more important that you make something your proud of and makes you happy? Art is not a competition.

C'mon, Sax is easy, All ya do is blow in one end and run yer fingers up and down the wiggly bits on the outside.

And Piano! How hard can it be. Ya just gotta press the buttons in the right order. And the black buttons, they're for when ya want to be quieter, right?

One comeback I occasionally use is to laugh and say "Yeah, I won mine in a raffle at my local bar on Thursday and here I am getting paid as much as the guys who had to spend years learning the hard instruments."

Next time someone says how easy bass is, hand 'em your bass and announce to the band that there's a new bassist sitting in the next set.

Why people think bass is easy ? Because it is. But like with any other instruments, actually making music is hard.

Same thing with singing. Singing is easy, everyone has a voice and a range (be it three notes). Now, how many people actually sing in a way that moves us ?

I used to play trombone and I play keys, mouth harp and guitar and let me tell you, bass is surely the easiest of them all to pick up and doodle when you have no experience with it. But easy is fun: just look at women

Wow, next time that happens to me, I have to do that. It'll shut all of those idiots up. Trust me, I play in my middle school wind ensemble, we do concerts, I play extremely easy riffs, and people think that that's all I play. When it get's to play whatever you want to, the teacher's not there time, that's when I get going. I play lots of slapping riffs, and a lot of people stare at me regretting what they said: "Bass is so easy" (I take separate bass classes then the stupid riffs at my school). It feels so good!

Look up the Chapman Stick.

Why talk to a non player about an instrument at all?
How rewarding could that be?
It's like talking to a 5 year old about cars.
You can bet it's gonna be a pretty shallow conversation.
