I believe us bassists are the coolest dudes.

Key guys can be cool, but only in a space agey way, drummers are all blah blah blah, song structure, blah blah blah, guitarists are all about "what's in it for me", singers are, well, singers.

Seriously, who would be cool if we weren't?

Seriously, I jammed with a guy who has 30 keyboards around him in a circle. He has just a little door for himself.

Space age!!!

No Moog, I was disappointed.

And it always seems the bassist is the one who:

- Carries spares of things the other players don't;

- Knows how everything works.

+1

Every gig we play I carry a spare extension cord, mic/cable, and stand.

EVERY gig we play..."Mike! You got that extension?"

I know very few other bass players, but every bass player i did talk to had a wide library of music, not just rock or metal, but rock, metal, jazz, punk, pop, R&B, blues, etc. You talk to one of 120 guitarists at my old school and its all metal.

The problem is that it's not cool to tell people how cool you are, you have to let them figure it out on their own. Otherwise, coolness points are automatically deducted. You can earn those points back, but it's not always easy.

Be cool.
