Boy am I stoked about it! Wednesday started out super..and ended great too! Actually it started about 10:30PM the night before...when I got that bass from my good friend Jay.
Then the morning came and I saw one of my other dearest musician friends (guitard player, lol) and then came home and the UPS truck arrives and viola! It was the other bass!
I wasn't intending on going out that night to the Bullet to play..I debated on it, but didn't have the gas to go..I didn't cash my check yet and had no cash on me. Jay, who plays bass and DJs at the club, text me and said there were some of my friends out there at the club wanting me to go out and hear me play. I said I didn't have the gas and I hadn't cashed my check yet. He said that they all would give gas money if I needed it. So, I tossed in my main bass (my Squier), and the one I got that day (for him to look at and adjust if needed) and went to the club (on gas fumes). I get there and ended up playing 6 songs. I didn't mess up at all...only one that I did screw up was "Let's Groove Tonight" by Earth Wind and Fire, b/c I was just learning it and I just sort of played what I knew of it (along with the song-it was DJ/Karaoke night). But anyways, during one song, Jay suggested I get on the stage to play. On Wed, they don't normally use the stage-they do the karaoke stuff on the dance floor-to keep people off the stage (on Thurs they use the stage for karaoke because part of the band is there, so they play along with the karaoke stuff). So, I put all my "stage fright" aside and hopped up there. I mean come on..it is only like a foot tall stage! But I felt like I was 10 feet high up there! I heard myself a whole lot better with the amp behind me...(I had been playing on the dance floor before-I used his wireless on my bass) I could feel the bass more-even down my feet (the whole stage vibrated to my playing). It was great!!!!
I didn't know that it was addicting too! whoah!
Jay said that I should be in a band, and I asked him did he think I was ready and he said yes.
So that was my day on Wed (and part of the day before)...if I could only start the day all over again.....
OH AND BTW....I got gas money...I laughed and said it was my first "paid gig"!

I love "Let's Groove" by EW&F. Awesome tune.

So you played your bass on karaoke night? How does that work? Do you play along
with a tune? Or were you doing bass solos?

What other tunes did you do?

When nobody is singing to karaoke, they play DJ music (by the real artists) and that is what I play along with.
The other ones I did were:

Goodbye Time by Blake Shelton
Winner at a Losing Game by Rascal Flats
The Reason by Hoobastank
Walk Softly by The Kentucky Headhunters
and Wave on Wave by Pat Green

mostly country but it is mainly a country bar
