Because one stung me on the side of my knee during our 2nd song at a Concert in the Park last Wednesday. 10 acres, 200 other people -including 2 guitarists, a drummer & singer- and it chooses me to land on and sting for no other reason than the shear enjoyment of it I guess. it's just another sign of bassists getting no respect... Well the show went on because I'm not allergic that I know of, but my leg still is swollen somewhat from that little p.o.s.

| | | | I know what you mean! I had a wasp land on my A string and just chill there for a few minutes at the last outdoor gig I played. I tried waving the neck around and blowing on him... he just wouldn't fly away. I actually had to play around him!

I killed all of 'em again, and didn't get stung badly this time.
I feel for ya, last year they got me twice while I was trying to find something to kill 'em with.
Darn bites stung for days!
I found you can't kill them with:
brake cleaner -just slows 'em down a little
50/50 bleach and water sprayed on 'em
automotive spray primer - just makes 'em red, and REALLY mad, though you can spot them flying around easier

I used to have all sorts of wasps living around my house big nests every where but since it has turned into a desert they are all gone. I did have a stray chicken living at my house a few years ago and she killed the crap out of them I guess they taste good. |

I haven't tried it without the straw because I would probably burn my hand. The straw keeps the fluid contained instead of spraying every which way...
If you light yourself on fire, it's not my fault.

...did you miss a beat?

| | | | Yellowjackets To take out a Yellowjacket nest, wait until dusk, they are less active. Make a solution of soapy water, heavy on the liquid detergent. Dump it on the nest. The soapy water will suffocate them. This works best on Yellowjackets that nest in the ground.
It's best to go in and get the nest later cause it will attract the next group. good luck and be careful. |

Spray the nest with gas(for added effect, and nest destruction, light it). Or, just spray it with gas, and they should be gone. If they are up near your gutters, spray them with a nozzle and your garden hose(only works on small nests, if it's big and you spray it, run like hell). Good ol wasp killer works as well. I've used Clorox in the past, too.
If you're feeling adventurous, a large rock. Fun way to get exercise, too.

I even pick off carpenter bees (they look like bumblebees) in the air with bpc. They fly a short distance, and nose dive, and never move again. Wasps drop like stones. The trick is to hit them square on, soak the suckers. If they only get a drop or two, it pisses them off. You have to get enough on them to get them wet. Wasp killer works too, just costs more, but the cans do spray farther. I hate bees, wasps, bumblebees, hornets, and I admit to having a phobia about them. I take great delight in killing as many of them as I can.....
I deal with ants and anthills with gasoline and a match. Sucks all the oxygen out of the hill, so they come up for air, and right into the flames....no more ants....

If you light yourself on fire, it's not my fault. | I had the non-chlorinated stuff, just stuns them for a bit.
Also, lighting it is not such a great idea when they're living in the outer wall of your house...

| | | | Ooh, got into a nest of yellowjackets when I was a kid. They are nasty, agressive little devils. They lit me up.
Gasoline in the nest works. Do NOT light the gasoline. Just pour it in the nest and run.
