I don't really need a 5 string bass player

But I used to say I did. In fact, that's how I got to know the online bass community in the first place. I was a troll. But I'm reformed now! However, this is too funny for me not to share.

Imagine this ad:

Five String Bass Player Needed -

We just got done auditioning a bass player and he just wasn't a good fit. He came to the audition with a 4 string and was not able to play certain notes low enough. He also did not have that proffesional look that 5 string players have. 5 strings are standard in today's country music, and I just want to give my fans what they expect.

Anyway, check out our last rehearsal with the auditioning bass player here:

TalkBass has a reputation of being a take no BS kind of place, and I wouldn't be surprised if I'm banned right of the bat, but I figured I would make an appearance anyway.

I've spent very little time on the Harmony Central forums due to them being just about the opposite of TB, but one of the few threads I've managed to read was your 'Five String Bass Player Needed' thread.

It's a joke thread guys.

Yes, it is a joke. But I'm not trying to trick you or anything. Just recognize the ridiculous nature of the "ad" and listen to the "rehearsal". It's funny. That's all.

Me too. The funny thing is, is that there was an actual 'Outlaw Country' guy on my local craigslist who put an ad up for a 5 string player. My ad was basically identical to his, but I recorded the fake rehearsal to go with it.

Heh, the lack of a b string is the least of that band's issues.

meh,

I don't really see the joke.
Just arrangement discussion and discussion on the range of an instrument.
Because this is fake it doesn't make it funny.

It's okay to have on opinion on someone's instrument... when you're auditioning.
Within reason off course.
I don't see how this would be a characterization of taking an audition and being a jerk at the same time.

---

sorry for the intermission

It's OK. Everyone has different tastes in humour. I think someone else should take a stab at explaining to Renee why it is funny, though.

Pretty obvious that you are new around here.
Noone will attempt explaining me why a certain thing is funny.

They just aknowledge the fact: René is not amused...
and then move on with it.

1. That's why Hipshot sells a LOT of D-tuners.
2. It's pretty effing hard to get around the need for sub E notes if you play current country covers.

I wouldn't go into a country deal without 1 or 2 above.

My wifes country band has a guy that uses a standard 4. It sucks.

That was funny though. There was similar put up job a few months back of a guitar player coming unglued in the studio that was even funnier.

IMHO

The sad thing is that I got 15 or more responses from people who wanted to play with Willy. Who would want to play with a guy like that?
Hee hee hee...
