I'm sure this is old hat for alot of folks, but this was a big event for me.
This weekend I was down in Nashville for a confrence. Having recently joined a country band, and knowing little about the style, I decided to take in some country music.
I met a singer named Carl D, and he told me to bring a list of the songs I knew to Crossroads early saturday evening. He didn't know me from Adam, but I showed up, and they let me sit in for a few songs. Sid, the bassist, let me use his bass and answered all my newbie questions. I was terrified, and far from perfect, but the (small) audience seemed to enjoy themselves. Quite a rush, and a great inspiration to practice more. |

I've played alot of pick-up and one-off gigs, but almost always either with musicians I know or there was at least one practice or pre-gig rundown, so this on-the fly situation was a pretty big confidence builder for me.
Next step, taking the "nashville numbers system" from something I know about to something I can actually use in a live situation. |

So why is there NOT a club yet? What does it take to get a club started on this forum? |

| | | | I was in Nashville last weekend. What a great place. I had a chance to sit in at Layla's, across the street from Crossroads. I also met Roger Wills, Alan Jackson's longtime bass player. Really nice guy, and a super bassist. It amazes me how many songs these bands know, and how smooth they pull it off. If you've never been, you should make the trip. I'm going back in August.
Can't wait. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
