I had to share this experience. I'm going to keep it fairly anonymous, as I really did enjoy the bar, and I don't want to anger anyone. We look forward to playing it again!

I play in a punkrock/reggae/soul type group. We have a great following, but it's fairly all ages. While on tour, we always have to book a few bar gigs to come out on top. So last weekend, we book a bar gig on a night off. It's a decent gaurentee, and we have a few fans in the area, so we are stoked.

After handling a four hour drive through Arizona, we get in town. After meeting up with a band we are playing with, we carpool it over to the venue. First off, WHAT A DRIVE. I swear we took twelve side streets, went through three different neighborhoods, and eventually end up driving through a trailer park. Nothing against trailer parks, I've lived in them. But the bar was IN IT!

We park, unload, and enter the venue. I've seen alot of Mary Jo's and Billy Bob's in my time, and this place was full of them! Cheapest drinks in town, and roughest crowd!

To cut to the short of it, I'll recap a few events of the night:

- Rawhide. x 3. Yes, three extended versions of Rawhide. In an hour and a half set.

- Drinks. I've never had the promoter, bartender, and crowd push so many drinks on me in my life.

- Brawl. What would a place be like without your classic bar brawl?

- Beer bottles. I learned to dodge real quick!

- A line dance to punk rock.

Oh man, this was just too good. I don't think I've ever had a more fun gig in my life. We got payed well, and the bar owners are begging for us back!!! Who woulda thought?

I had a real similar experiance a few weeks ago. Chicken wire would have been a very good thing!

I was all set and ready to start the third set, when I noticed the singer having a heated discussion with some guy. All of a sudden the dude jumps up, and charges him. Well, Scott is a pretty big boy and the other dude had obviously been drinking. Scott stepped out of the way, grabbed the guy in a head lock as his momentum carried him past and slammed the guys head into the wall!

Then he jumped onstage and we started the third set.

They paid us a whole bunch of money, and were asking about when we could come back. I'm thinking "Never".

I have a buddy from west Texas with a 1/4 round scar on his forehead. Seems in his younger years he played a bar (I think in San Angelo, but don't remember for certain now) who had recently removed the chicken wire from the stage.

One rowdy guy in the back let out a holler and tossed his bottle at the stage, catching my buddy right square in the forehead, knoc**** him out cold with blood gushing from what was recently the intact skin on his forehead.

Once he came to, he wrapped up and finished the show. After all the gear was packed, band paid, tab squared away, a quiet guy walked up to him, not ma**** eye contact, with his hat in his hand. He apologized profusely, swearing that last week there was by God some chicken wire up there.

Sounds like you were in Redneck Heaven. I'm not surprised you had a good time, those people are the real Americans, just havin' a good time. I've always said that "When the sh!t hits the fan, the only people you can depend on are the Rednecks and the Bikers".

Sounds like an awesome gig. I hated being a drummer in those types of situations because you can't get the f**k out of the way if needed!
