I just can't stand a thief!

Just got home from playing a gig at a new club in Harriman TN. I went out to move my truck closer to the door in preparation for tear down after the third set, and someone had stolen my GPS unit off of my windshield. Yanked the power cord out of the dash and even left the passenger door open.

My truck is a 1986 rusty piece of crap, I choose to spend money on nicer things like bass gear and electronics, like say, my GPS!!!! Granted, its my fault for leaving it in the open like that, but I can't lock my truck and I was in a hurry when I got to the gig.

I can put up with about anyone, I don't care what color you are, what your religion or lack of is, sexual orientation or politics. But I can not stand someone who takes something that does not belong to them. They probably took it and traded it for one lousy pill or something like that. The irony is I had neck surgery six months ago, and had almost a full bottle of percocet in my glove box, along with my checkbook. I guess I should be thankful they didn't do a thorough pilferage. I just feel violated, if the person who took it was in the club and liked my Dingwall and Ampeg they now have my home address, because there's a little icon that says HOME when you power it up.

Okay, rant over, I just played all weekend and now I'm 100 bucks in the hole. I just don't understand a freaking thief.

That sucks man. I know how you feel. I had my van stolen in April of last year. It's a sickening feeling knowing someone can sink so low as to ripoff someones hard earned property. What goes around comes around however. Karma will get the lowlifes.

Be glad that you left your door unlocked. If you hadn't, they might have smashed the window to get to the GPS unit, and then you're out a whole lot more money. That's what happened to me anyway.

BTW, I have a theory that criminals are more attracted to older, junkier vehicles. I think it's a familiarity thing... They know what they are dealing with, what it's security is like, etc. Kind of like they feel they are out of their element breaking into a nice car or something. Given the same neighborhood, all my friends with shittier cars get broken into far more often than the ones with nicer vehicles. And it doesn't have anything to do with them being easier to break into. I've had to jimmy the locks on a lot of different vehicles.

Poor people always get the shaft. That's the way society works.

Please remember, people will steal things just to steal them. Some people will try to make some dough, others will toss their theft into the garbage. Best thing to do these days, is leave NOTHING visable in your vehicle, no matter what kind of car or truck you drive. I know, it really sucks.

Heres a couple to restore a sense of justice

A crackhead pushed an 80 yr old woman to the floor at a local mall stealing her cashbox from the charity table she was sitting at. He ran for the door when a young mom pushing a baby buggy stuck out a foot tripped him and he fell onto his face breaking several teeth. A 300lb guy then sat on him til the cops came and hauled his a$$ away..

My buddy next door caught some a$$wipe teen stealing the chrome air cleaner from his hotrod...Stupidly the theif took a swipe at him....wrong move.... Terry is an amateur boxer, he creamed the jerk.

See, sometimes there IS rough justice

You have our condolence on your loss, not like that makes it any better.

My theory: 80% of the human race is basically good. 20% is evil and screws it up for the 80% .

Always has been that way and probably always will be.

I understand your pain very well, my friend. You'd think the least the guy could do was close the damn door.

Back in '98 I had my Ibanez stolen at a gig. After I went offstage to talk to friends and some of the audience. By the time the entire show was over, I went back behind the stage to find it was gone :S.
One doesn't learn for cheap I guess. Ever since I keep my eye on everything when I am out.

This incident really got me thinking. If any of my gear were stolen, do I have my serial numbers in an easy to find place? I probably have them somewhere, but it would take precious time to find them, so when I got home that night I took out my digital camera and took photo's of all the serial numbers of the stuff I gig with. Thought I would feed this forward, it's a good idea to have digital evidence of your stuff that you can hand over to the cops if someone rips you off.
