First gig with my new band, Ive been in plenty of bands in the past, which have mainly been rock bands. But recently after audition I was offered a place playing for a singer/songwriter called Ben Drummond (who by profession is a pro bassist working in the UK) , Its acoustic music mixed with a bit of flamenco (think ojos de brujos) and funk, jazz etc, real fun stuff to play.

We played a small jazz club tonight with half the band, Ben, myself, a sax player and a cello player. The crowd
loved us, really appreciative, Ive always played in bands where ive been far advanced on the other players musically. But now im not in that place (im the only amateur/semipro in the band, the rest are pros! teachers etc!). I was also offered a place in a pro function band by a woman who saw me play tonight, playing weddings and stuff so Ive got another potential job there!!

In all, leaving that drug taking self obsessed rock band was one of the best decisions ive ever made!

It was also worth it as the fact a load of super hot spanish chicks wanted thier photos taken with me....result

Ahhhh who'd be a bass player eh??

I would!!

im sorta in the same boat, but on the other hand im in another band doing three doors down covers and more of the same, so it sorta balances out.
