I finally figured out a great drop tuning for me.
Drop Gb.
First drop the G string a half step to Gb. Then tune the D string up 4 half steps to Gb. Next, drop the A string 3 half steps to Gb. Finally raise the E string up 2 half steps to Gb. Or if you want, you can put a thicker string on for the E and drop it to the low Gb. A .130 string might be best for this. You may need to file the nut a bit to make this work.
Now all the patterns are the same and can be played the same way on every string. This should make guitarists that like drop Gb really happy as they can totally see what you are doing, compared to a 5 string where they can’t read your hand positions at all.
The really nifty thing is that this tuning works really well in F# too.

| | | | Well, that's alright, but then you have to use your left hand to play an E.
...
Wouldn't it be great to have a bass with only E strings? All strings of the same gauge and tuning. You'd need a five string to make it work, obviously.

of the 'tone' don'tcha think?
If I was to do that, I would use one LaBella flatwound, one
GHS Boomer, one Blue Steel and maybe a Rotosound. And
maple board with blocks would probably have the optimum
Gb tuning performance.

well....will it?......WILL IT?
I must know!!!!

I don't know about the zero frets never having had a zero fret
bass.
You can use rosewood only if you have clay dots as clay dots sound better than other dots so
that would probably work out. Read that thread carefully
for the instructions.
