I played my first gig on friday

I have been playing bass by myself for about a year. However, I have never played in a band setting.

I was at my buddies house (4 hour drive from my house) for the weekend, and his bassist couldn't make it to their gig Friday night. They asked me if I would fill in and I said ok. This was Thursday night at 11 pm and I didn't know any of their songs. It was also the first time I had ever played with a drummer. I spent a few hours that night and all day Friday practicing and managed to learn their setlist (using the original guy's bass which I have never played before).

When we got to the bar for soundcheck I was told that I had to use another bass that I haven't played before. Then when the set started they placed me front and center on stage, which I thought was weird because the singer was to my back left.

Other than a missed cue or two I feel that I did pretty well. I had a bunch of people want to take pictures with me, and I had one drunk lady ask me for an autograph. The band asked me to be a permanent member, but I had to turn them down because of the long drive.

I don't know if this post made sense but I just wanted to share.

Congrats!

It sounds like all in all it was a success!

Try to get some of those pics. It'll make for good memories later.

Great story! Good thing that you started playing live so early, and on a not usual setting. You have gone a long way considering the little time you've been playing.

Lucky! Haha. My first time in front of people...ugh.
Praise & worship is hard for me because A) For the most part, it all sounds the same, B) Same sound...same notes...songs blur together, C) This makes it hard to remember each one

Well add all that together + my first time playing in front of a crowd...

Hey thanks, that brings back memories for me and my first few times playing with a band. I got bit by the stage bug and never looked back. Congrats! May I suggest that you keep playing out by finding a local gig. It will improve your chops and timing tremendously. Good luck with your continued motivations.
