I see what you mean about guitarists...

Was practicing in my room today with a guitarist friend. I have two bass cabs, a guitar head, and a bass head.

When I change instruments, I have to swap the cab leads from the bass head to the guitar head. I asked my friend to plug the guitar head into the secondary cab while I grab a coffee.

I come back with coffee and a range of confectionary. He not only plugged both heads into the same cab, but used my guitar lead as well!

He's never borrowing my gear...

Last gig with guitard I turn up with the PA, no time to spare, guitard vanishes until it's all loaded in, and I mean all of it.

In any of the bands I've been in, dude doesn't help load and set up PA, dude gets payed less (except girl singers, of course).

Luckily they're not all like that.

Yeah we all have to load in together or it doesn't happen. Myself and the guitarist gotta move his 80-100lbs amp, while the singer (female) is loading in guitars, cables, etc.

Why should the girls get off easy? They're just as capable of carrying stuff as men.

I know, kinda reverse discrimination, but there it is.
It seems pretty universal anywhere I've been.

It's a universal scam with 3 steps. Act like they don't know what they're doing. Annoy those in charge. Get out of work.

Same deal in my band. My female singer is slim so I don't expect her to lift heavy stuff but she flat out refuses to drive the van and learn anything about hooking up the PA. It can be argued she does the least as far as the logistics of the band goes but gets a pass because she feels she's the "star".

I couldn't keep my singer from hauling gear if I tried. Guess I'm lucky.

Our female lead singer, gets off easy. Carry some guitar cases, mic stands, bags. This is ok with me as she handles booking, and after the gig....getting paid. I run sound, haul amps, mains, monitors, my rig.

Actually, most girls are not as capable of carrying stuff as most men...they just physically aren't...

while a n 80-100 pound guitar amp might give them marginally more trouble than it would you or me, I would argue that they're just as capable at carrying my bass as I am. I suppose one could say it's just equal opportunities lifting.

The girls in the various band ensembles at the high school here can move things like 300+ pound drum carts and 200 pound marimbas better than we guys can half the time. We're not sure whether or not to be awestruck or dumbfounded....(hmm, wonder if they're interested in being roadies)

And you'd never know it by looking at them. As an aside, they don't look bad either.

My Girlfriend (fellow bassist) used to help with load in/out back when it was high school basketball season. She carried cables, extension chords, power strip, music folders. The guitarist and I carried amps with our instruments slung behind our backs (we both have big combo amps). And the drummer pushed the drum cart haha. worked out pretty well.

In the praise team at church I play guitar, so she carries my hollowbody guitar in it's gig bag and I carry around her massive ABG in its hardshell case (she's 5ft tall and thin) so that she isn't hobbling around with it.

In a previous band of mine, our lead singer (female) would show up about half hour before our set. She took the time to get ready. Didn't matter since she would then use her looks to sell merch faster than any of us could.

Getting back to guitards...

Tonight's gig he rolled up with singer just in time to load in the big guns, empty takeaway box in hand as he gets out of singer's car. "Where's the rubbish bin?"

I lost it. I told him to forget the <expletive> rubbish bin and grab a handle. I think he got the message as loadout was all hands.

It's not just guitards. We had a trumpet player once that after a gig was chatting up someone during load-out. After he was done talking he just stood there watching me carry something toward the door. I gave him a dirty look and said in a nasty tone "having fun watching?". I think he was better about it after that.
