I have been advertising a few items on Craigslist and I find it amusing when some idiot who has never seen the item e-mails me and says "I will give you $300 CASH right now!"
BTW I don't take personal checks, cashier's checks, money orders, credit cards, debit cards, gift certificates, stock, bonds, gold, silver, diamonds, food stamps, starbucks coupons, etc.
I only take cash US. No Canadian money please.
Sometimes they guy will make an offer so vague that I have to e-mail him what item he was talking about.
Craigslist.....never a dull moment. |

BTW I always give them my work address. Sometimes a fake name. |

Let's think about this for a second. I listed the TV for $250. If I was willing to sell it for a lower amount, say $200, in order to get it sold more quickly, why wouldn't I just list it for $200?
The lowest pirice I'll accept? I don't know, what's the highest you'll pay? |

I sent him a link to a Craiglook page with about ten cabs like mine for sale around the country and mine was the lowest one listed. He still tried to beat me down $50. I am so temped to tell him to come and get it and then punch him when he shows up.

Write back with the counter offer "sure I'll take $50 less if you also let me punch you in the face when you come to pick it up." |

My bank actually ok'd the money order after I told them the story. If I actually went through with depositing it, I would have been out $7000 for a motorcycle. Im sure there are TONS of people that get shafted by these scams. |

"Asking $500, will take $400."
You see it on there all the time. Just in case we feel like paying $100 over what they already said they'd take. |

In my experience buying and selling anything on the used market, the first price listed is never the final price. It's a negotiation.
Why not offer to split the difference with the guy, and offer to sell it for $25 less than you're asking? IMO, better to sell it right away locally for a little less than asking than to wait for weeks or months, OR have to sell it online and put up with shipping, PayPal and/or eBay fees. Of course, best of all is to buy/sell it here on TB, despite the PayPal fees and shipping costs/hassle.

I have found if people are serious, then they will call. Bought, and sold alot of gear on CL that way! | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
