If you play with a pick at a gig, do chicks still think you're playing a guitar??

Do they even realize the difference if you use a pick?? Does it look like a guitar if you get out in front and rock out?? Bass is my passion, and I just joined a band, but it's like, I don't want to go unnoticed while my guitard friend hogs al the chicks and attention. My thought is, when you play bass, you don't have to stick to the stereotypical role of a bassist, that is to stand in the back in the dark on top of your amp, completely unnoticed. If you can play well enough, why not get up front, rock out, and have fun??? I've taught myself my bass parts so well that I can do so, and I use a pick because I want a more audible sound, I'm playing rock after all. and NOT PUNK ROCK EITHER!!!

Lastly, I like watermelon

for sure get up front and rock out, but you don't need to play with a pick to do that. Play with whatever is more comfortable for you, or more importantly: what sounds the best for the song

IME the really knowledgeable women (not "chicks") prefer bassists who play with their fingers because they watch what those plucking fingers are doing to those strings and imagine the possibilities...

You want the vapor-headed bimbos? Fine, do everything possible to look like another guitard. You want the knowledgeable women with the sensuous imaginations? Then play with your fingers.

Most chicks I know that would even care that it's a bass in your hands play bass better than most guys that claim to be "bassists". So do your thing, rock out, there are no rules about what you do on stage. As said above, do it well.

In my experience half the audience don't even know what a bass is...you could play it with a half eaten tortilla chip and it probably wouldn't matter

Speaking of petrified wood, have you ever seen one of those Surf Picks, or tried one?? I want one, but I don't know what they sound like.

Well, yeah, if they see the fingers and the way they movin, I can only imagine what's goin thru their mind:cool

When you guys say we get the level headed, knowledgeable ones, do you mean like, brunettes excusively, women with meat on their bones, or the ones like the killer blonde I saw in one thread who was wearing gray.....there are SOOOO many things going thru my mind right now, and I don't even normally like blondes.

I get up front as much as I can and rock out. And for the really fast and technical parts of the songs, where my fingers are all over the place, I stand pretty still so the ladies can get a good look at their capabilities. I rarely use a pick.

I have told a few girls at my school I play bass, and they ask me why I like to fish...

This is no lie, and no joke.

Chicks won't care... but other bassists might think you're just a frustrated guitar player...

If it's chicks and attention you're after, you're playing the wrong instrument brother...

But hey, way to go against the grain.
