If you've actually played in public with your SX, please check in here.

Oh geez, did another gig where someone came up to me a said, hey, awesome tone. "What are you playing? Oh really, an SX? Why don't you get a Fender or something?" I told him if it sounds and plays good, what does it matter? He didn't get it.

If you have actually been caught in public unabashedly playing an SX, please check in here.

(And before flaming begins, don't worry, I like my more expensive basses, too )

Honestly... around these parts SXs are becoming pretty damn legit and more-often-than-not are looked at more like, "Oh an SX huh? Yeah, YOU know what's goin on!"

EDIT: True story though; NEVER have i seen an SX playing guitarist... only SX bassists. I blame TB 110%

I don't have an SX but I do have a Brice which it also being sold through rondo. This one guy asked me why I didn't play a spector when my band plays metal. I told him that I liked my Brice and he responded, "But..it only costs $300..." I told him, "thanks for listening" and I walked away.

It wouldnt matter WHAT I played, guys would still come up and expect me to be playing a Fender. I have played my SX's, Spectors, Warwicks, EBMM's....they still look at me as if Im playing a Daisy Rock bass...if it dont say Fender on the headstock, it might as well be an alien from Jupiter.

1+ to Thundar. The conversation could be like.

Me: "I drive a Murcielago."
Him: "A what? Why don't you get a Corvette?"

I'm not knocking Fender just like I'm not knocking Corvettes. But my SX's are more like tricked out Honda Civics with nitrous. LOL.

I always bring it out to gigs. It's a lot less to worry about when playing in unfamiliar territory/bad neighborhoods.

I'm a poor boy wife & 2 kids so all I own & play out with are my 2 stock SX's on jazz & 1 PJ. Most people assume it's a Fender at first glance & when I tell them I payed $89 for the Jazz they are shocked. It's a point of pride for me to get a great tone for a shoestring budget.

I play an SX pretty much all the time in my church. It works just just fine for me, I have no shame! : )

Most of the people at my church wouldn't know or care if played my SX or a vintage Rickenbacker last weekend. I got my new Ursa 3 recently and I have to say that it is simply a nice bass regardless of the price. No shame here either.

People seem to go with the Agile guitars from Rondo. There are no Agile basses.

Did you ask him what his TB screen name is?

In the year or more I've been playing my SX's out live (leaving my more expensive Fender at home), I've quickly racked up a lot of positive compliments on tone & interest from other bass players about my SX's (what is it, sounds great, price?, etc).

Although I've been off a month or two, I'm getting ready to do every weekend solid through late November - I know which basses I'll be taking out (again).

I've played my SX on probably 20 gigs and like it just fine; not really all that crazy about bringing out a 1960 Pbass to drunk bar gigs anymore although don't mind do so with 70's Fenders

SX is all I use. Besides, 95% of the people that see and hear you wouldn't know the difference between an SX and anything else anyway (nor would they care), and the ones that comment either don't know what their talking about or are gear snots, and who cares about them? Not me!

I've played my SX Fretless Precision out exactly three times: twice at church, once at a bar open mic night. The reason I don't play it out often is because it's a fretless and it needs a setup badly. The pickup distorts just about anything. I'm thinking I might put some money into it someday.. I don't know. But hey, it looks good!! (Lake Placid Blue)

When I was on tour in the '90s, I grew weary of the Peavey Patriot I'd been using as a backup. The damn thing had a really nasty edge on the neck and it got to the point where I really dreaded breaking strings. Well, we were in New Jersey and our guitarist (a local boy) suggested we visit Rondo, where they hooked me up with their house brand P-Bass copy (with HSC) for about $100. They weren't going by Essex or SX back then, but it was the same thing. Damn fine instrument! I made it into a fretless a few years back and it still works like a charm!

So, back to the OP, yes I've played my SX in public! It went on about 3 or 4 US tours and was played on stages big and small. It may have received the occasional sideways glance down the nose of some of the more discriminating bass players, but that thing had a nice low action, stayed in tune and could take a beating. What more do you need for punk rock?
