I am right beside a person in my class who is a guitard who is saying bass is easier than guitar, because it has less strings. I hate this as much as I can hate.

theyre two different entities
i also hate when bassist try to say its harder than guitar for some wierd reason.
its not.
and its not easier.
but IMO the basics of bass player ARE easier.
if the girl isnt hot you shoudl stop talking to her anyway, if she is hot bang her out and kick her to the curb ( no one likes a lady who cant appreciate the low sound)

Your other option is to have her try playing a bass once and let her make a fool of herself.

| | | | I've come across many more bassists who can play the hell out of a guitar than guitar players who can rip it up on a bass. Just this past winter I was at a local blues jam a guitarist friend of mine was hosting and say these 4 guys (drum/bass/2 guitars) play some blues stuff that completely blew me away guitar solo wise. Turns out the 2 guitar players were actually bassists from other bands.
I think bass requires more manual dexterity. I love schooling the guitar players in my band since I know way more chords then they do. |

And, fwiw, I play a 6 string bass...tell her to think about that.... |

| | | | I think the violin comment works the best.
My guitard said something to me the other day about 4 strings. I asked him how many chords he played that he needed all 6 strings. He shut up. |

Any way you look at it, if she's comparing guitar playing to bass playing then she's clueless about music structure. Everyone knows that in the end bass players get more gigs because it takes a real musician to appreciate the role of a bassist and anyone who listens to the radio can pick up a guitar and learn 3 chords and look like a rock star. For every 10 guitarists there's 1 bassist. We're an elite group of musicians who don't gloat in the limelight but smile in the back ground where the real music is played. Tell her that, word for word!

You can play just as many chords on a bass as well.
My guitarists get mad at me when I hit on the overdrive and nail a pinch harmonic and my bass screams way better than their guitars can. |

Its easy to pick up a bass and pluck a couple of lines down, maybe even follow a simple cord progression playing 1/4's but there is much more required to be truely great at it.

Simply calling someone a "skier" was like calling someone a "guitard" here. So the metaphor is better than you think!
