So the sax player in my jazz band gives me a call. Asked me to play bass on last minute gig for a sax player. I said Id do it and asked him some info. Then I asked him who Im playing for. He said the guy is Richie Cole, and told me whos hes played with. The name didn't sound to familiar. Though now I see I should have known who it was. I did some searching on the net. This guy is def a top alto player!!! Why am I nervous you ask? I always get nervous playing with old cats. They have been there and done it.
And I have yet to pay my dues completely. And i see hes a bebop player. Cant say Ive ventured to much into the bebop realm of jazz. Weve played a few bebop tunes here in there in the band. So the gig is Saturday. I know the guys that will be playing with him. Which is nice. We'll just be calling tunes all nite. I need this anyways. Hopefully it will be a good experience. Anyone else been through this?

I wish I could just jump in any old band and play... I envy you guys that can do that. The Keyboard and myself tend to wander into jazz when the guitars tkae their smoke break and he said I have the makings of abee bop jazz bassist. Never really understood what he meant but I think its because I wander around alot and tend to play melody as much as rythm. BUt good luck

Well I was hoping to hear about others experiences. Oh well. Thanks for responding prof. The gig went great!!! We played a few tunes I havent worked much on. It was honor to share the stage with Richie. Most of the songs hed start out, do a solo, and lets us take it from there. I did alot of soloing, way more then im comfortable with. But i enjoyed the experience. I dont get to play jazz alot. So when something like this comes along i really enjoy my night.
