Interesting Observation from Weekend's Gig

We've had some P.A. issues so we had to roll this weekend with an assymetric set-up.

On each side of the stage we had two subs (2x18 each sub), and two top cabs with a mid and a horn in each. However, one of the top cabs blew so one side of the stage effectively had only two subs and a top (with the second top being up there only as a dummy for looks).

Meanwhile, one of our power amps was also out so what we had was:

Right side of stage (facing it) = 2 subs and 1 functioning top fed by 3 power amps @ 4,000 w each.

Left side of stage = 2 subs and 2 functioning tops fed by 2 power amps @ 4,000 w each.

As I looked out on the dance floor throughout the night I couldn't help noticing that the RH side of the stage was more populated than the LH side by a ratio of about 3:1. Deduction = the side with more bass (i.e., less mids and highs) and more watts, was more popular. Coincidence?

On an unrelated note, you guys are using some serious power. WOW. Our entire PA was 800 watts, and even that was overkill.

Let me know next time you guys are opening up for Metallica!

But alas I agree, its a well known fact bass makes the head bop!

LOL... we play some pretty big rooms as well as a lot of outdoor events in the summer. And our BL (who owns the P.A. and mixes the band from the stage) likes lots of punch in the bottom end. So lots of wattage and subs are mandatory. It's a good outfit to be in...

We played a smallish bar last night using their PA. They've got 13,600 watts in subs (4 X QSC PLX 3402) and 3,400 watts in mains. It kicks a little butt, for sure.
