The only thing I can run to is Underworld.
Generally, I try to avoid music when I'm running, since running is meditative for me and music isn't.

Greg | It would be cool to know how many of us were/are in marching band!
I played flute and piccolo. Mother said the drums were too unladylike, and the baritone was too big and bulky. She bought me a flute. {{{shrug}}}

Cherie | ugh, you HAD to play 2 out of my least favorite instruments (even though it's pretty much all woodwinds, which is why I'm so glad when I join DCA next year, there'll only be brass, CG, and percussion). Percussion isn't unlady like! The best snare we have is a girl, and she's still somewhat lady-like *cough*
I'll make one later in the off topic forum.
Greg

| | | | just on the note of syncing your body with music, i watched a highschool jazz band last night and the bass player was chewing his gum, and you could tell when he locked in with tempo cause he would start chewing on 2 and 4 for he was good, but the gum was a bit distracting |

Greg | Hahaha, yeah. I do that sometimes when I'm walking home from school with my headphones on. Listening to Indian music doesn't make it easier, though. |

One day I was just watching, and I noticed that they we where pushing off to the beat of the music. We were trying to ollie something (I can't remember now), and we were either jumping to early or too late. I thought that maybe that the music was making us want to jump on the downbeat, so I turned off the boombox. Suddenly, we started landing it.
And when I run, I try to listen to music that has about the same tempo so that I don't slow down and then speed up. |

This was a huge gym with about 40 treadmills. The music in this joint was pretty loud and a couple of the TVs in front of the 'mills would show the video for the song that was playing. A song by Jimmy Page and P. Diddy (from the Godzilla soundtrack) came on. It was based on Kashmir. Anyway, within about 30 seconds, EVERY LAST PERSON on the treadmills had adjusted their pace to match the song. My co-worker and I, both being former military guys also noticed that everyone was also in step!

| | | Since I left marching band, I made a point not to let my feet move to the beat of the music. If anything, I guess you could call it polyrhythmic development. Worse comes to worse, listen to Meshuggah while you're walking or running. |

It's my work out, and the music is there to make it tolerable, not detract from the activity. But being a former marching band guy, if I do lock in with the tempo, I force myself to lead with my left foot on the one. |

I've noticed that too. You could always tell what friends were in marching band in school. You'd be walking down the halls with a group and all us in marching band would automatically be in step no matter how fast or slow we were walking. |
