Irritation with young, stupid musicians.

if you are going to ask if you can play two songs right before we play our set. come prepared and be semi professional. don't forget cables, dont stand there for ten minutes looking at your bass head trying to figure out how it works. have your **** together and your instrument in tune. do not dick around like you have nothing to lose. be respectful of elder musicians.

Not everyone is born a pro. Sounds like these guys are pretty new, and were undoubtedly nervous, and didn't really know what was going on. We all have to start somewhere.......

At least they made you guys sound that much better. It's really no big deal.

i get everyone has to start out somewhere. i was once 17 and playing shows too. but when i got there, i knew my instrument was in tune, and i knew how to turn on my amp.

these kids were just like. wow. the one kid sat there for like 5-10 minutes trying to figure out how to plug in his head into a cab. then it was the kid forgetting his power cable in the car, and asking everyone in the band if they had an extra one. after he realized he didnt have one, he looked around at the audience for a few minutes, then finally came over and said "my power chord is in my car, can i use yours?" normally i would have been ok with it, but my amp had been warming up for about 30 minutes and i wasnt going to power down and power back up just so he didnt have to go outside. i'm sorry, but you need to be prepared.

then, once they were all ready, they played their first song completely out of tune. after it, i handed the bass player a tuner and said he was out. he used it, and it took them a few minutes before the next song was played.

to top it all off, they set the vibe for the entire set for us, which was just bad.

you're a nerd. that being said, i will now prepare to break two strings tonight, have my amp tubes fry, watch my drummer crack three cymbals, and have the other guitarists' power cords get severed somehow.

more power to you captain prepared

i am a nerd, but for other reasons. i come prepared because i know what can happen. it's part of my o.c.d.. you never know when things can go wrong, and when they do, i can fix the issue. that being said, i need to get some replacement tubes because that is the only thing besides a separate fuse i will need.

i even used to bring an extra power amp inside of a 2 space rack just in case something goes wrong with my amp.

Isn't that a tad extreme? I'm all for being prepared, but extra hardware? If a knob falls off, you gotta stop the show?

my band tours a lot. if we are doing a weekend, week or month and something happens to my amp, i am s.o.l. unless i have a replacement. there has been tons of times things have went wrong and there wasnt a music store around.

as far as hardware i mean screws, strap lock parts, rack screws etc etc. because lets face it, if i do a repair on the road in a dark club or a dimly lit hotel room, i am bound to lose a screw or something. so i have extras. i dont do repairs on stage. i will just switch basses or amps.

i dont know how many times those back up cables come in handy.

in your car, you have a spare tire and tools right? in case something happens right? well my tool box full of goodies is like my spare tire.

Actually, I'm with xshawn on this one. If you haven't had all that stuff (and more) break on stage yet, just keep gigging.

Heck, in 30 years of playing, I've probably broken 3 bass strings total, but I've broken one on stage.

Even for the most casual gig, I bring a spare bass+strap and cables. Most shows, I also pack a spare pre-amp and an Eden 112

player(s), it wouldnt matter much if he broke a string
or amplifier for that matter, just keep wigglin your fingers

i have been really lazy with bringing a back up lately and i know i shouldnt be but generally we play with friends bands and there will always be a bass to play. i've only been gigging for ten years, but after my first tour i realized that i am glad i am neurotic.
