it's the small dings in life....

doesn't it just get under your skin for days even when you put the most miniscule, superficial blemish in a new piece of equipment? I just found four very small, almost unnoticable lines on the front of my Mesa 400+ from where my Gator case's lid claws were grinding on the amp. When I bought it, the top was totally covered in rack rash, so why are these unnoticable dings irritating me so much? weird.

I have played, in the past, with one guy in particular who was totally anal about his equipment. Taking care of your equipment is one thing, but getting distraught over a little scratch is another. I look at my equipment, basses included, as tools and use them as such. Would you get upset if your brand new hammer had a scratch on the face? Would you then never use it to drive another nail? You have to realize that in order for your gear to provide enjoyment for you, it's going to pick up some wear and tear, or as some people like to call it - MOJO.

I'm one of those "dings give it character" kind of guys. That's not to say I intentionally abuse my equipment, but stuff's gonna happen to it and I'm cool with that.

Now, if someone else causes the ding or scratch or whatever, it's war.

The value of the tool is not the issue. I have a $36K pickup truck, but if I'm afraid to scratch the bed by hauling something in it, what good is it?

I take care of my equipment and yes, the more expensive it is, the harder I try to take care of it. However, while I may be bummed about a headstock ding, or a dent in a speaker cab, I'm not going to lose sleep over it.

Just my 2 cents.
