| Jamming philosophy, good musical metaphor

Me and some friends were practicing for a jam gig we've got tomorrow and we were just chatting about musical philosophical stuff like why when you're put on the spot "hey [person], play something good!" in a jam you usually end up choking, all the stuff about how jamming is a musical conversation and how when you're put on the spot you don't have anything to say so how can you say anything? someone said (may have been me, can't remember heh) that when they're put on the spot they just play the blues and one of the guitarists made the brilliant observation that "playing the blues is the musical equivalent of talking about the weather".
So true.
