What a trip!
My band and I had to drive from Winnipeg in a 1/2 ton GMC Sierra pulling a U-Haul. I know this seems like not the worst setup, until you discover that there`s six of us in the band. We set up a futon mattress in the bed of the truck and at any given point there were two of us in the back of the truck. Myself and one of the guitards took the first shift in the back, it was beautiful! Crisp and cold but not a cloud in the sky, I watched the sun go down while wrapped in a sleeping bag and holding a glass of wine (I don`t have a licence so I could drink if I wanted). It was awesome, until about an hour out of Kenora when it clouded over and started pissing rain on us. We had to pull the tonneaux (sp?) cover over the truck bed and try to sleep. It was kind of uncomfortable but it would have been way worse jammed in the truck!
All and all it was a hell of a great tour, short but sweet. We played at the roadhouse in Sudbury Ontario, where we had the best sound we have ever had...I think the soundguys name was Luke, anyways if any of you are planning on playing in Sudbury that is the place to be! Nice people, and the bar manager has a beautiful Hammond with a Leslie that sounds like sex!
Next we played in Toronto at the Tiger Bar. A super fun show and it was part of a fundraiser for CHRY 105.5 Radio (York University), plus it was the first time that I`ve played Toronto where strangers would actually dance to a band they`ve never heard of....good times!
Pop Montreal was an absolute blast, we played at the Bar Fly on Saturday the 6th. That show was the best show I have ever played in my life The bar was packed so tight you could hardly get from one end of it to the other and everyone danced and clapped along! It was amazing, most of the patrons had never heard us before but absolutely loved it. One guy came up to our singer and told her that we were the best show he`d seen at the festival...it was amazing.
Finally we were supposed to play at the Apollo in Thunder Bay on Tuesday the 9th but when we rolled into town the doors were locked and the lights were off in the club. Bummer, `cause we left Montreal in a hurry to make it to T.Bay when the whole band wanted to spend a couple of more days in Montreal checking it out.
It turns out that the club forgot that we were supposed to play that night. My suggestion to anyone planning on playing the Apollo is to double and triple check their calander to make sure you`re posted...we thought confirmation from the person in charge of bookings was enough but we were wrong, and with no contract in place we were left holding the bag....oh well, all in all it was an amazing trip and my dog was happy to have me home early....
I absolutely love Montreal and would move there in a heart beat!
Sorry for the long post but I just wanted to share!

Damn, I wish I had known you were playing. Barfly is about a ten minute walk from my place! It's not a pretty place but the gigs there are always a blast!
