So for those of you who don't know my wife and I tied the not back in June.
Well since then we got these 3 retired race horses, one is the offspring to seattle slue (the only race horse to win the triple crown 3 years running I think). Anyway we just put them out with the stud and we were talking about what to do with the money once we sell the foals. Aside from the obvious we still should have plenty left over so I asked her for a MM stingray.
She asked me how much it cost and found out... then promptly said no and that she doesn't think it's wise to spend so much on an instrument...
I shall not stand for this outrage

I shall not stand for this outrage | hy would you ask your wife if you can buy a bass from your own money?
-Well if it is a joint investment I can see it.
Just use your own money( that which you earned on your own) and get the bass from that.

Actually, I've never been married, but that sure can be true about any long term and committed relationship.
To the OP - It's a struggle and it's work, but if she's a keeper, it'll be worth it in the long run. Unless she bankrupts you before then. |

If the purchase is going to put the family in trouble, have enough respect/decency not to buy it...if that's not the case you than just enjoy the fruits of your labor. |

She clearly has never been a musician. Tell her to ask her local cellist or floutist what they paid for there instruments.
The Flute instructor at my college has a $40k 15k gold flute. In comparison a 1k bass is not that much at all.
Why don't non musicians ever understand the value of instruments

My Ampeg purchase happened only after the Mrs. received her new iPad. Keep Mama happy, and the gear can then flow....

| | | | - Tread softly, because you tread on your dreams.
I think in any relationship there must be an equal amount of respect and appreciation from both sides. It means that if your wife is shitcrazy about cats or puppies, let her have dozens. It also meas that you should get your stingray if your shitcrazy about that.
However those are not the only two parameters to consider. One must take into account what are the existing plans for the money earned. If the money is allready tied then you're out of luck.
Sounds like you're better half is a smart woman that has a firm idea where things stand nowadays. One failed investment and you could be left without a roof over your head. Some backup money or even investement money will not hurt.
On the other side of the coin, I have no idea what sums are we talking about. In the end it's up to you to persuade your wife into understanding what the instrument means to you. If all else fails, you could try to make some money on the side. Moonlight a bit. A month should be just enough if you're just a bit lucky. If you tread softly and play your cards right, she may realise that you are a devoted and determined person and will try to understand your ambitions and desires. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
