Not sure if this is the right forum for this, but it does have to do with gigs so here goes. Have always looped my cable through the strap to give it some slack and prevent it from popping out on the bass side--what tricks do any of you have for preventing the cable from popping out on the amp side? Was playing at church this past weekend, and right before we got to the closing song ("Crown Him with Many Crowns" for you P&W'ers out there, a very bass heavy tune) I inadvertently stepped on the cable and popped it out--song started and I had no volume--kept my bass face on and slapped away rather than just standing there, which was funny in itself!

If that doesn't make you feel secure, just set one of the feet of the amp on the cable. But if it's the Hartke rig in your profile, I doubt you will pull it over by tugging the cable. Here's the one thing to be aware of. If you loop the cable and DO step on it, there's a chance you could break the end off in the amp. So always keep a spare. (It's not likely but it could happen. It's only happened to me once in my 25 years of playing.)

That way, he could feel if he were starting to reach the end of the cable's length. That sensory feedback kept him from pulling the other end out of his amp. |

First off good on you for just going ahead and keeping with the "show".
If you ever get to a point where your cable can't pop out of your bass or your amp what will happen the next time you yank the cable? You pull the amp over "Bam!" or it yanks you around possibly snapping the jack on the bass. The second one is less likely but you get the idea.
It happens.

| | | | I use a 90 degree cable jack going into the amp and then loop it through the handle on the rack case. Same with it going into the bass - looped through the strap. Never had an issue.

If you're going to tape your cable to the floor, use gaffer's tape, NOT duct tape.
If you want to stop worrying about this completely, go wireless, but be prepared to spend a LOT on batteries! |

If you were to use say a tuner, then you could just route the cable from your amp to your tuner out of your way, then your cable will come from a pedal in front of you where you are much less likely to pull it loose.
Of course the best advice is to get a wireless.

I put a loop of my cable under my belt above my pocket in the back. The loop touches my back and if anyone steps on my cord as I move the loop pops out telling me ..I'm out of cord or someone stepped on it.
