I'm 43 and started this thread to talk about finding yourself on stage at the (insert your regional Black Hole of musicality here). For me the term is the Lamplighter Inn, in Memphis, Tn. When I was a kid we used to pass the place. It looked like the most nowheresville building ever. Like where when you walk in everyone on stage is wearing blue velour, with big lapels, where the audience is comprised of the seven people who on the night of 1 January 1970 weren't able to escape it's supernatural gravitational suckiness, and now they are like moving wall paper, slowly peeling away.
I'm wondering what building that was or is in your town, if you ever played it, and would love to hear any on stage revelations or conclusions.
No I never played the Lamplighter, I did however play at the most happening of the two bars in Steele, MO, two nights, and luckily there were no fights. The highlight was after we played our first two sets, we asked if anyone wanted to sing. This dude stepped up. He was wearing glasses so thick I thought for sure they were a Hollywood prop. Short, kind pudgy, as untalented looking as possible. And then he started singing. Of course he rocked. I however as the drummer who could barely play our songs much less anything else murdered Clapton's, "You look wonderful tonight". |
