Landing a gig...

Sign in to disble this ad
Several days ago I was walking through Galway city with my bass and was offered a set of gigs in a pretty well known pub in the city (several big names have preformed there, the latest being Natty Wailer I think..). The manager approached me and told me they wanted a four-piece rockabilly/blues band to perform regularly for approx. 2 hours. Delighted, I agreed to form a band and perform these gigs. However, despite that I had given him my number and although he said he would ring on Sunday (yesterday) he hasn't done so.
What should I do to try and land these gigs? Would it be prudent to ring the pub and ask for the man himself?
I'm brutally disappointed that he didn't ring and I'm in need of the dough. Any advice TBers?

You really should do a little schmoozing. Stop in to see him, buy him a beer and a whiskey, sit down at the bar with him and hammer out a schedule.

Don't be passive. Actively try to land the gig.

Sounds like a plan. I may pop in tomorrow, see what the story is. I'll update here afterwards!

Sort of similar story. Already got a gig at a local venue that a ton of big bands play at, sort of fell into the gig and consider myself very lucky. But they asked me to pre-sell tickets (we get paid based on ticket sales) and we wanted to pick up the tickets. The show is in July, so we figured we'd start now.

The venue is terrible at communicating. Their website is updated maybe once a month, and their calendar is from January. They don't pick up the phones, even though there's a big festival there later that day. So we made the 30 minute drive to the venue, waited a half hour for the owner to run across the way to Officemax to have the tickets printed, and find out they're not ready for another 3 days. But now we know when we can get the tickets, the owner knows us by name and face, and we got to meet one of the managers who runs the shows.

I just got off the phone with the manager there. He says he wants us to play at an open mic night next week, just to see what we're made of, then he'll sort us out with a line of gigs. Sorted.
