last night i played a gig with my band isn't it always opening for a couple of other bands like us, they told us to store our things out in the back room which was very cold. when it was our turn to play bass kept on going out of tune! i guess the strings were expanding because they were getting warmer but that was sort of embarrassing, how i had to tune up every minute or so. is there a way that i could prevent this from happening in the future?

and one of the bigger bands stole the jacket that my girlfriend bought me for Christmas.. i hate jerks like that

Sure. The next time someone tells you to pre-stage your gear in an environment that cold you look at them and say:

"No. All the string instruments will go out of tune and all the amps that are cold on the inside will get significant internal condensation when they power up and warm."

It's a reasonable position to take. You can also keep the strings inside a heated vehicle until the show and run a cord to the amps to keep them turned on and warm.

How cold was "Very cold?"

I lunched a nice SVT years ago when it started to rain inside the chassis from condensation.

it was 40 degrees when we loaded in, we put our amps in line on stage. by the time we got playing, it was 30 degrees and the other bands left the door to the storage room open. it was about 70 degrees inside and when we were playing it got a lot hotter my stack was perfectly fine. i think next time i'm going to store my bass on the stage
