So the drummer in my current band has seriously messed his back up to the point of being bedridden the past couple of weeks, so no practice has happened since..It's a new band and we've been SLOWLY (too slow IMO) building our setlist..Last weekend the guys I used to jam with have a different drummer and bass player, and my wife and I go check them out..Haven't seen these guys since last May, when I quit due to a conflict with the drummer, didn't want to put the guys into a "one of us has to go" ultimatum, so I removed myself...They then decided to 86 the drummer too...I'm still good with them though, and have been wanting to come check them out, but other stuff kept popping up and preventing it from happening...We get there and the place is friggin' packed, as it was when I was jamming with them...Had to stand off to the stage left side by one lead guitar player and got hugs from everybody..Then during the first set, in "Alcohol N Ass" (Hellyeah), the singer motions to me to come up and do the backing vocals I used to do when I was with them...Well that was unexpected and pretty cool!...Then at break, the bass player (a guy I've known for many years) asks if I want to do a couple tunes...I respond, "I thought you would never ask!!"...So that is the cool part...Now for the not so cool...The guy's bass rig...He has a couple of Hartke Transporter cabs, a single 15" and a 2-10"...He used to have a Hartke amp that kept breaking down on him, but now has a Behringer amp...I could BARELY hear myself onstage, and really don't care for those aluminum cone speakers at all (first time playing a Hartke cab in a live band situation)...Too me, they have a tone that is too crisp for my taste...Probably could've turned the amp up for more volume, but that wouldn't have fixed the tone thing...Made me really appreciate my old roadworn and proven Peavey rig I use, and have had for almost 20 years now...
