"In Wisconsin, a cemetery grounds worker is charged with stealing a guitar from a dead man. Steven Conard is accused of lifting an expensive cream-colored Fender Telecaster from the casket of 67-year-old Randall Jourdan, an Army veteran who passed away on September 19 and was brought the Allouez Catholic Cemetery's mausoleum on the 23rd. Conard's coworker James Lang told police that during Jourdan's memorial, Conard commented, "That's a Telly, a really expensive guitar. I have to have that guitar. It's too expensive to be in a crypt." When Lang later checked the casket to make sure Jourdan's prized instrument was still there, he found it missing. Police say the guitar was found on the floor of Conard's living room. According to the criminal complaint, Conard, who is charged with felony theft from person or corpse, said, "This isn't something I normally do. I just have a respect for fine musical instruments."
I personally would never steal anything, let alone a casket and military veteran. I wouldn't however want my basses to be buried with me. I'd rather give them away while I'm alive or have them arranged for when I'm gone.
