It was logical to me!

Tonight at rehearsal I had a blonde moment. One of the guitarists pulls out his Zoom recorder as we are about to start a set so I ask "are you recording this set". "Yep".

I reply "Well in that case, I better take my glasses off".

For me, "glasses off" means less concentrating on musicianship and more getting into it for gig readiness. So it made perfect sense to me...yet the band revelled in the joke at my expense for a little while.

I would think you would want your "glasses on" for a recording. Since you want the music to be at its absolute best for an audio-only experience.

I would think you would take them off. Why? Because the sonic reflections of many objectionable frequencies off your glasses can muddy and otherwise distort the sound.

I feel that a deliberate "absolute best" recording for a gig rehearsal is counter productive to hilighting the problems we'd hit playing live with all the stage craft going on as well...which we also rehearse in the studio.

If we were recording for a promo pack or something else yes, I agree. Glasses on.
