I just found this on IMDB.com on a trivia page.

"Given that he had been the centre of attention in Maiden's early gigs the addition of Bruce Dickinson to the bands line-up originally caused small scuffles between the two as they wanted to both be at the centre of the stage. Bruce mentioned in The Early Days documentary that Harris occasionally elbowed him away, he returned the favour by causing Harris to trip on his extra-long microphone stand."

Im getting some funny pictures in my head. Not really the bassist stereotype eh?

Apparently, that is still the case...almost 30 years latter.
I read some recent interviews with Bruce and Nikko where the answers to many questions were "ask Steve"...as in 'it's his band and we do what he wants'...
I know some guys that have met him and said that he was a real jerk...that should probably be taken with a grain of salt as most rock stars are not really willing to hang out and chat with the common-folk (unless your a hot chick that's looking to prove what a fan she is).

I used to see Nikko around here, heard he had a summer home and used to give master drum lessons. He'd go to a concert and get mobbed by fans for autographs..he's easy to spot.

I bought my first bass solely cause it looked like Steve's (mid 80's). At the time I was a huge Maiden fan - I still have a soft-spot for Eddy and co.

Met him once at an Anthrax gig in Hammersmith ('88 I think) and I have to say I found him to be a really, really nice bloke. Seemed to have time to answer the same old questions he probably always gets asked without sounding bored or in a hurry. He did in such a way to make this starry eyed teenager feel a bit special.

Don't think I just 'caught him on a good day' - I've heard so many similar good stories about Mr Harris.

Different people will have differing experiences but thats my 2 penny worth

HAHAH, nice story.

I remember when I first saw Maiden live. I was 17. We worked our way as close to the stage as we possibly could. At one point he looked straight to my eyes for quite long time (felt like eternity to me). That was the point that made me a bassist.
Since then I´ve played a few gigs... And in one festival gig there was young bloke on the crowd that I noticed looking my playing. Well. I did what Harris did and got the eye contact with him ( I usually do it only with chicks ) And goddamnit, what an energy rush I got when I noticed that he had the same reaction that I had back then. It was great.

So, Go Harris ! LOL
