Cool Look at this racist POS bass item on eBay

Looking at basses on craigslist and eBay at 5 in the morning on the weekends seems to be my recent hobby. I came across this on the bay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-JAZZ-BLU...A1%7C294%3A200

Am I the only one that thinks this is inappropriate?

I guess I should come clean before I head out for the day.

Thanks for the early morning social experiment guys. Do any of you watch reruns of the King of Queens? I just happened to watch this episode a couple of days ago. They gave this exact same statue (actually it was 4 of them, the whole jazz band) to their black friends, and the entire episode was them trying to figure out ways to get rid of it because they thought it was racist (and ugly). Freakin funny. I couldn't resist the temptation. I didn't think I would get that many reactions.

Ah, the classic "It was a social experiment!" bailout. Well done.

I can see how it would seem offensive to some, but you should really see the plethora of collectibles that are 100x worse than that.

You have to remember times have changed drastically over the decades and society had different socially acceptable standards.

Just chill

I love the guys still agreeing to "over-reacting" hours after I admitted the joke.

And my avatar is not a social experiment...that's just nice for everyone to look at.

it's a POS all right... I must say the 'big lips and lots of teeth' thing reminds me of the kind of outdated African Americana that was prevalent in the earlier part of last century... but if that's the most offensive race-related thing you've seen this week, count your blessings

Context.

If I was visiting W. E. B. Dubois' house and saw that ugly POS on display, I might say what a remarkable piece it is and inquire about it. And learn something.

If I was visiting Dick Cheney's house and saw it, I wouldn't waste my time asking him why he had it. The answer is clear enough.

Is it racist? Good question.

Depends on the context. Thanks for posting it.
