Look what happened to me last night at a gig!

Sign in to disble this ad
Was too late, and the crowd were all drunk, came a song that had a lot of movement in my left hand, so it was very difficult to play without seeing the Fretboard..

Was a very small stage, I could not move at all, so while i'm playing seeing the fretboard very focused.. arround the image of my hand, i saw two hands agitating aggressively, something like this: (this is my view from above, was a high stage)

When we finished the show, this guy approaches me and tells me HEY WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU? why you've been watching me intently all the time?? I owe you something??? haha and then he pushed me, and I pushed him in my defense, then his friends grabbed him by all, everything happened very fast, not even had time to explain

Then his friends apologized, told me that he was very drunk, but was too late because the security man took him outside the bar... hehe.. things that happens...

Gotta love the drunks! Just be thankful he didn't take a swing at you on stage. By the view I see you might have taken a shot to jewels!

Hah. I played a lame jazz gig a couple of weeks ago with a trumpet player (his band). Another local trumpet player (good player) came in and was very drunk and high on coke. He wanted to sit in. Our guy "T" said "no". Other guy said yes, and pulled his horn out. T came off the stage in mid song, said something to the other guy, where upon the other guy grabbed T by his collar.

T hit this guy so hard in the face he broke this guys glasses in two, then hit him on the side of the head with his horn. Hard. Major trumpet repair bill.

The other guy ended up on his back surrounded by a bunch of pissed off people ($10 cover, night before Thanksgiving) and was really lucky to get out of there with just the damage he already took.

In fifteen years of playing in all kinds of places from sleazy to Martha's Vineyard (wait, aint they the same?) this is the only fight I have ever witnessed that involved the band.

At a friggin jazz gig.

Never played anywhere back in the 70's or 80's without a band/equipment bodyguard. He saved our collective asses and the equipment several times. Had a guy come at one of the guitar players with a knife one time; the guitarist looked and was built like "Hoss" Cartwright but our even bigger bodyguard (Bear was his name) was on the perp before he got to the stage. This kind of stuff would happen a lot back in the "Quaalude" daze; especially during full moons. And people ask me why I have carried a gun all my life....

That guy must have been staring at that long neck the whole night. He must have wondered why the neck was bigger than him. It looks like he was trying to measure the span of the neck with his outstreached hands.

That drawing is priceless. The long arms and that grimace with the evil red eyes. It makes me laugh that this is how you percived this guy.
I like your sense of humor.

The proper response is "I thought you looked familiar. I think I know your momma, let me see the top of your head and see if there's a family resemblance..."

You should show him the drawing next time, so he can see what you were seing. The large neck just happened to be in perfect alignment with his grimace which for some reason had red eyes brimming with ill-will.
His friends allready apologised to you, so you know they understand. I bet they'll get a good laugh out of your illustration and so will he.

I love the diagram. Maybe he has such a bad attitude because of his freakishly long arms.

Nevermind his arms, I'd like to know what kind of bass that is, you can fit like 60 frets on that neck.
