In the Matrix? [rant?]

I just had an audition/rehearsal with a cover band that got my name through the grapevine. I was a little scared, because they have a huge set list and I've been burned before playing covers, but I crammed for a few weeks and went.

They play tunes from every time period back to about the 50s, which are generally not too overplayed (considering the gig) and which are varied, danceable, and flow well together. The drummer sings well, in tune, and holds the pocket beautifully. His drums sound great. The guitar player, in contrast, sings well, in tune, has chops, tone, and doubles on keys (where he plays the right chords and his tone approximates the original nicely). The volume was well below where I listen on the car stereo, and was balanced. I could hear my own vocals when I sang, and rediscovered the joy of singing without earplugs.

Did I mention that they are nice people that I like already, and the money is fair.

There has to be a catch.
