My boss just told me that I need to attend a conference in San Francisco the last week of the month for a CMR software that we use, called Saleforce.com. This is their large annual event. My boss apologized for the last minute "request" but told me, "the good news is that you get to see Metallica." Honestly, I had to fake excitement while inside, I felt somewhat depressed-Metallica, once the baddest band on the planet is playing a software convention??? I am day dreaming of making a sign that says "Cliff would have never have taken this gig." I secretly wish that my younger self can time travel with Metallica '85 to beat us up for being such wussies.

James has become pretty open to the fact that he faced a lot of trouble with alcoholism for many years. Of course, I'd also drink too much if I had to put up with Lars. |

What really pees me off with bands like them is that they claim to love their fans and all that crap yet charge a small fortune to see them in a stadium/arena holding so many people that they could easily cut the ticket price by half and still make lots of money, I have seen them quite a few times and to be honest I get more pleasure out of seeing a small band in a small intimate venue, they have made some good albums though (a long time ago) !

As far as the drugs/alcohol thing, they were all partying a ton during their early years, but Dave Mustaine went overboard and they gave him the boot. When they started slowing down on that, they lost their inspiration (IMO) and started forcing it. Especially after they did the reality TV/therapy thing... |

I wonder if they'll do Kool and the gang's "Celebration", Sister Sledge "We are family", Mustang Sally, and Brown Eyed Girl. Gotta do those at corporate gigs, in my experience. I'd almost pay to see that.

I also attend the Oracle shindigs in San Fran some years - and boy do they throw some money around. One year they hired the Cow Palace and had a private party with Elton John headlining, and Joan Jett on a seperate stage. Then at another they hired Aerosmith. Last year we had the Black Eyed Peas and Steve Miller. It must suck to play for a crowd when you know most of them aren't really fans. I guess you just pick up the paycheck and move on...

The timeline to full implementation kept getting longer and longer, the list of great new stuff and problmes that would be corrected kept getting shorter and shorter, and the cost doubled, the tripled, and I think it was headed for 4X.
Little wonder they have plenty of money to throw at parties and other events.
