Misconstrued Lyrics!

I was thinking back to my gigging days and a story that sticks in my mind from those "old days".
I recall one drinking establishment that we played in, required the band to play Saturday afternoon matinee and also to allow anyone in the audience, to join the band on stage for a song. Not the most enjoyable of requirements, but let's face it, if ya wanna get paid, you do the gig!
Well, we had played a set and during the break, a guy comes up to us, guitar in had and asks if he could join us for a song or two. We say, of course, what do you want to play?
He says" Do you guys know "Slow Moving Walter"?
Us, "uhmm... no who does that song?
"Not really sure but it's an old song, I'm sure you know it!"
Us... "ok, could you sing a bit of it for us?"
Sure he says, I'll do some of the chorus:
"Slow moving Walter, that fire engine guy"
We stare back a him in complete disbelief....trying not to laugh in his face, because the tune he sang those lyrics to was none other than.....

SMOKE ON THE WATER!!! I kid you not!!!
Smoke on the water ,a fire in the sky, was determined to be "Slow moving Walter, that fire engine guy"!!!!!
So anyone else have an misunderstood lyric stories! Good Friday entertainment I say!

How about War's "Spill the Wine" - Spill the wine, take that pearl.

Most people think it is "ooh I dig that girl".

Good thread topic. I know theres a few good ole lines I've misconstrued, though the only one coming to mind at the moment is one of the biggest misconstrued lyrics of all time, "Blinded by the light, wrapped up like a douche, another roamer in the night!"

A friend of mine got a book for her birthday about 10yrs ago. I wanna say the title was simething like 100 Most Misunderstood Lyrics, or something like that. It was hilarious to read because the writer also had cartoon drawings of characters experienceing the storyline.

"don't eat the refer" (real lyric: don't fear the reaper -Blue Oyster Cult)
"jeremy smoked some grass today" (real lyric: Jeremy spoke in class today -Pearl Jam)
"s'cuze me while I kiss this guy" (real lyric: s'cuze me while I kiss the sky - Jimi Hendrix)

I remember one day that my best friend was asking me to play a song from G'N'R:

Hey Pedro , play that song from Guns, the song they said they want Tequila. I told him that I did not what song he was talking about, he started to sing:

I used to love herrr but I want tequilaaaa.. it was hilarious

My favorite is this snippet from Zep's "Stairway to Heaven"

"And there's a wino down the road
I should have stolen oreos"

That's pretty cosmic.

Though "Slow Moving Walter" is right up there, indeed.

When I was a kid I would hear Foreigner's "Cat Games."

I knew there were "reindeer games" thanks to the Rudolf The Red Nosed Reindeer song, so there wasn't too much of a stretch for there to be cat games.

For those of you that don't know, that would be misunderstanding "Head Games."

Not all that long ago I was talking to someone about Bruce Springsteen songs- and I didn't know the title so I said that "Dead Devil In The Freezer" song.

Um, "pour some sugar on me" is by Def Leapord, and NOT Bon Jovi, or am I mistaken?

haha...

Side note, I have developed an unhealthy hatred for that song. Reasoning: My brother deemed it his favorite song for about a month, so he played it EVERY SINGLE NIGHT on repeat and we shared a bedroom at the time.

I can recognize it from the first drum hit...

My all time fav by .38 Special.... "Hold on Lucy".
