just read the GC rant and thought i'd give my local mom and pop music store a good ribbing!
so i go to my local mom and pop music store to buy a sixth addition
real book.
i bought my last fake book there so i figured they would fave the 6th addition real. so here how it goes
Salesman 1: hi can i help you?
Me: yeah do have the sixth addition real book?
Salesman 1 looks at Salesman 2 mumbling and dumb looks on their faces.
Salesmen 1 and 2 :uhhh we don't know what that is!
Me: you mean you guys work in a music store and you don't know what a real book is?
Salesman 1 and 2: uhhh we play metal!
Me: yeah so do i but i still know what a real book is!
Me: never mind?
Picture Salesmen 1 and 2 cooking up a plan.
Me: thinking dooon't ask me please don't ask me!!!
Salesmen 1 and 2: uhhh we can order that for you.
Me: hey there is this new thing on the computer called the internet you can order things right from your home and they ship it there too! and the best thing about it is that you don't have to wait for people to put off your orders or screw something up.
it's really neat you guys ought to check it out sometime.
Kid customers in store laughing me leaving in disgust. |

But in all honesty, I have no idea what you're talking about. If I was them I'd probably be on a forum right now telling people about the jerk hastling me at work about some obscure item. No offense, but mom and pop stores generally hire kids for minimum wage because they can be trained to run a register like a monkey, not because they're knowledgeable about anything.
If its so easily obtained off the internet, why not ship it right to your door yourself? Cut the middle man? |

There may actually be a 6th EDITION Real book out there somewhere.
And I guess this is the moral of the story. Try not give these guys too hard a time if they don't know what you're talking about. Because I don't know what you're spelling about.

there you go...for when you want to take your own advice. actually that last bit of your "story" made you look pretty stupid, because if it was that simple why not do that in the first place. |

however there isn't ever any benefit in being rude to shop employee's no matter how thick you think they are.

the kid shouldve asked what the book was, then seen if he can get it for you. i work in a grocery store, if someone asks me for something and i dont know what it is, sometimes i get the same thing you gave the kids at that store. "HOW THE HELL DO YOU NOT KNOW WHERE THE DEPENDS ARE?" quite simply, i dont use them. i dont think these kids use real books either.

Now there is a family-run store about 15 minutes away that is total crap, where they sell screwed up instruments for full price when they're used and beat severely. They have no product knowledge of any sort concerning basic instrument knowledge:
Me: Yeah lemme get some GHS Bass Boomers...what gauges do you have on that?
Register Jockey: Umm...gauges?
Me: ...You've got to be kidding me...
That having been said, I think He was just expressing that he was aghast at their lack of knowledge concerning this book He wanted (I must admit, I had no idea what you were talking about). If you went in there and asked if they had any Ric copies come in before (what I asked at the local crap store) and they went:
"Oh no, RickenBOCKers are far too expensive to carry here"
First off, it's pronounced "RickenBACKer" and I asked about Ric copies....how do you screw that up? I wasn't asking for something esoterically named like "Lawsuit Rics" or w/e. Anyhow, my point being that this wasn't necessarily embarrassing to those kids as about 90% of your replies on TB.com have no idea what you're talking about off the top of their head...and the store I complain about has more idiotic statements than anyone in all of Texas can muster lol |

Need anything but d'addario strings, or god forbid, anything else but 4-string roundwounds, you're in deep trouble.
(here are about 10 stores that sell bass strings, where 5-6 of them are bass only stores)
