Music teacher's compliment

Sign in to disble this ad
So today I had music class and we were playing some traditional peruvian music(the whole class). We divided the the instruments like this:
Piano, xilophones, "cajon", flutes and bass (me).
Our teacher showed me the bass line(it was not written in the sheet) and then handed the bass to me. He went around the class to check if everyone was playing their part well, while I practiced what he showed me. 5 minutes later we do a quick try to the 1st 15 bars of the song, because we didn't have much time left.
Well, the bell rang and as I was leaving he told me: "you know, even though that bass is crap (a yamaha P copy , beaten to death, crazy high action, strings as big as elevator wires) you make it sound GOOD! Really good actually."

That made me feel good, because our teacher is a DB jazz player and I had never had a compliment from a jazz player

Way to go, Iv@n! A well-timed compliment can often give you the encouragement you need to keep growing. Enjoy yourself...

The thing that really
is when we were playing a piece together (he was playing guitar over the top of it) and i lost track of what i was reading and improvised and he said "i wish you could remember what you were playing there cos that sounded better than the recording" That really encouraged me to go home and learn some theory so i could figure out what i did.
