Saw a band with no real bass player this weekend. They just passed the bass around to different members depending on who was singing. No groove, no feel, no nifty fills, just boring root note chord following crap.

Well, the bass is just a guitar with 2 less strings that is easier to play, so anyone can do it.

Can mods ban just because ALL of TB may ban together... never mind. Kinda sounds like Fallout Boy to me.

We went to see an up and coming Blues band last weekend. They won a local blues comp to go tothe nationals in Memphis, so you can imagine they were really good. The one big downer for me is they had no bassist and the front man only played guitar on a few songs with a couple guest guitar players on a couple differnt songs. The keyboardist was doing most of the basslines and on at least one song with a really heavy bassline it appeared he was using an MP3 player to back them up.
Koodos to whoever was doing the bassline on the MP3 though.
If I had my rig out in the car I would have offered to help out, seeing as how they brought alot of outside guests to join them.

I'd rather see a band with no bassist than a band with the quietest one of all who
just stands there with the bass at his/her knees with a big amp turned down to zero.
Go play "Rockband" you stupid Zombie!

edit: I now realize how ranty that post was and I apologize.

Yeah. It's actually pretty fun but sometimes i think certain bass players shouldn't be playing the instrument if they have no experience beyond the video game.
