Musical gig/unfortunate program typo

Sign in to disble this ad
I played the bass part for a neighboring school's junior high production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat this past weekend. The show went well, despite the kids only having 5 weeks to get ready instead of the normal 8 for a school musical (H1N1 hit that school about two months ago fairly hard). There were some tech difficulties (wireless mics getting static due to loose connections on the belt packs, etc), but the kids on stage and the pit did pretty well.

I grabbed a copy of the program, and the pit was listed on the inside front cover in typical fashion:

Instrument...............Name

Unfortunately, when they ran the copies, the first letter of all the instruments was cut off on every copy. I had to laugh about it, though I wonder if any of the parents were offended by it. My wife and kids got a kick out of it. It would have been ironic if the part called for a lot of tapping

Then you got credit for playing "_ass".
That's 'special'.

I think you mean ello. Unless you're talking about a different instrument entirely.

Hrm. New instruments!

impani (what drummers turn into when you leave the timpani uncovered and they have sticks in their hands...)
onductor (better than an offductor)
rench horn (might sound better.....)
boe (backwoods cousin of the oboe)
uba (cousin of the boe)

and so on

I was just looking at another angle to this. As if the damned pig flu wasn't bad enough killing 1/4% of people who have it, but now its screwing up the production of high school musicals! THis will not stand, CDC, get it together.

Yeah this is so totally not true.. H1N1 is not killing 1/4 of everyone who gets it, in fact, I was reading a report about Canada stating that something like 120 had died from it, compared to 9000 from regular flu. Just sayin'

Actually, what lousybassplayer said was 1/4%, which equals one person in 400.

I'm not sure that's what he meant, but it IS what he said.
Just sayin'...

My first year as a band director, I copied a percussion ensemble part for Bass drum and accidentally cut off the "B". My students gave me crap about that for the rest of the year...
