Man, I love doing musicals, great sight reading practice as well, over the years I've done:

Grease (4 times)
Camelot
Godspel (twice)
Cats
Les mis
Jesus Christ Superstar.
Oliver.
Fiddler on the roof
Rocky Horror
Hello Dolly
South Pacific
West side Story
Pirates of Penzance

and loads more not including Pantos (oh yeah and that big Irish dancing thing..river..something ).

The great thing with musicals/shows is getting to play in a full "orchestral" situation with a conductor as I said great for honing your reading skills (mind you about 4 performances in the score is mostly lying in a heap on the floor while theres a newspaper or book on the music stand...for the boring talkie bits)..

Bob Ohlsson, former Motown 'super' engineer.....the man responsible for THAT sound.

i dont think this really counts, but i played in a fifth grade musical (im in 9 grade and it was last year, stop laughing) and it wasnt that bad. We had to play pop songs, and it actually really expanded my octave use and abilty to play with a group of singers. The only good song that we played was the disco song, car wash, which was my first slap bass experience. We played oops i did it again and other fun pop crap. We got 175 bucks, which was totally unneeded for easy pop songs, but it was a nice profit. we got to jam at the afterparty and when the students were coming in at the matinee performance there were little tiny elementy schoolers dancing, so it was kinda cute and funny. good experience, and good money.
