I've been in a band for a year now with the same guys. The drummer and I have been trying to write .. We wanna start doing so many things and we can practice every week, the thing is our guitarist, he has nothing to do and doesn't practice. He always makes up excuses and plays this stupid computer game for hours. Hes not very good at guitar and we only have about 1 full song. Last summer we practiced alot and we wanted to play, all of us. Now summer is coming and he doesnt seem to play like last year. We kicked him out once we started noticing this which was about 4-5 months ago, but couldn't find anybody, so we asked him back. We've only had maybe 10 practices since then and we have to play punk music which I dont mind, but he always comes up with root and fifth powerchords.. The drummer and I wanted to play more talented music..We think he just wants to say "oh im in a band". Anyways the drummer and I have been looking for guitarist(s) behind his back and we found 2 through a friend but they are pretty much in the otherside of town. They are way better, they know each other so it wouldnt be to awkward to come play with us. Should we kick the guitarist we have now out, and just take these new guys who want to play and like to, even if we only practices 1 a week? I think we will have way more progress, and in 1 jam/practice with the new guys we would have way more done then we would of had with the old guy in 10 jams/practices.
Should we do it, what are your thoughts?

And if it works out, then go with them. See otherside of town might sound like a big thing, but to me it isn't because I live in Jacksonville.

it might be a good idea if you talk to your guy about this. if he changes, then problem solved- if he leaves, problem solved. guitarists are fairly easy to find.

oh yeah, i put this in the wrong forum, sorry. move it if you have to! | yeah i dont know why people do this, the band i used to be in, the drummer the guitarist and the singer (the singer left pretty soon anyway) all sed they wanted to write music and try and make something good from it, when me and the guitar player were together we would write really good music, the drummer would always just add a few ideas into them, but when ever i asked about finding a new singer, they would just say yeah we need to find one, and i'm like, ok why dont we put out adds and go looking, and they always come up with excuses so they dont have to look, deep down they must not want to get anywhere with music or something, now they are saying the guitarist will learn how to sing instead of finding a singer, which i have already sed i dont agree with, but now the guitar player is in australia for a year (probs be back with the next 6 month) and i still jam with the drummer every now and again, but i am standing still in terms of finding other serious musicians |

IMO just you and a drummer would be rather cool; DFA 1979-esque. i got sick and tired of my guitarist saying "let's record something", so i just recorded a song myself, playing bass and guitar (with a borrowed drum track). i also find it a lot more rewarding being able to say "i recorded that song myself"- not to mention people will be impressed that one person did it.

We've been keeping in touch with the two guitarist and we're all really excited to play together! cant wait!
