Hey Guys,
I just had to get on here and tell you that playing shows is getting addictive! I just played my biggest show last Saturday night. 3500 people. It was such a rush! We were just opening, but out of the 5 opening bands we got the best crowd response. And we sold all of our merch!
There was one thing that sucked about the show, though... We were told when we accepted the show and earlier in the afternoon before the show that we would get 4 song or twenty minutes. We timed our set and the five songs we decided on was just over 17 minutes. Well, thirty minutes before the show, the promoter said that the tour manager for the main band said that he didn't want any of the opening band playing more than four songs, period. So our set ended up being around 13 - 14 minutes. Sucks, but at least we now have a bigger fan base.
Later,
Ryan

Are they that big that they (or at least their tour manager) can dictate how many songs the opening acts can play? Kinda ridiculous, if you ask me...

Their name is Skillet. They're a christian rock band, as are we. (Our name is Shattered Malice by the way. You can look us up at myspace.com/shatteredmalice) As far as the christian scene goes, there aren't too many bands that can say they're bigger than them. They've been around for around fifteen years.
As far as the band itself goes, they're really cool. They hung out with us and were just regular people. It was they're tour manager that was the idiot.
Btw, I just joined the band about 3 months ago, so I'm still not in the band pic. It kinda suck signing an autograph in the corner... lol We're doing a photoshoot in September I think.
oh yeah... one more thing... if you watch the first movie, that is me and I am still working on my stage presence. This is my first hardcore band, so it's taking a bit... lol

In practice, work on a smooth transition between your normal second-to-last song into your closer.
This way, when some jackhole sound guy/stage manager says over the monitors, "Last song", you can do your "medley" of the final 2.

We probably could have done that, but the promoter has gotten us alot of shows and knows our songs, so he would have caught on. We hope to get more shows from him, so we didn't want to make anybody mad. It was just pretty stupid though... | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
