Well I was at the performance thing for this jazz camp I did at the Kimmel center, and one of the drummers knocked over a cymbal on a stand, which fell on my only long cable, cutting it right in half. Luckily I had a backup, but that was about 1/3 of the length, and now I need to buy a new long cable. Anyway, who has some stories about cable-cutting? Or a kind of cable that wouldn't be destroyed by a rogue cymbal? Other than that, the gig went well and was fun, even though I made a face when I messed up a solo, which I know I'm not supposed to do. |

It's never happened to me, but I've managed to mess up cables over the years in other ways. Offhand I can't remember which brands of cable withstood the cymbal cut test. |

I put my bass on its stand, but neglected to roll up my cord. I was sitting in our computer chair ( no arm rests, just a cheap old rolling chair). I had my feet proped up on the desk and was leaning back a little. I went to roll back to grab something, and BAM!!!!! The chair hit the cord, and back I went, managing to spin just enough to land on my elbow.....sweeeeet! Cracked my elbow and had to go the emergency room. Total bummer, got some good pain killers though. Couldn't play for two weeks. Luckily the crack wasn't massive, it was a hairline fracture. My elbow was so swollen and gross.
Moral of the story, I always roll my cords up when Im done!
You gotta watch out for those cords.....they're like creeping up on peoples. |

Back when I was playing my first bass the strap came off and the bass landed on the jack, with the cable in. The tip of the cable came off and got lodged in the bass. Not only did i need a new calbe but i also needed to replace the input on the bass :\ |

I use monster or planet waves for out of the way locations. |

Odds are against the accident. a) cymbals don't fall that often; b) they don't fall on edge that often; c) your cord isn't always where they fall.
Even if the cable isn't cut, it can be damaged by a cymbal fall.
Just carry a spare cable. Make sure you never carry one of the bad cables!
PS: I'm also careful to not step on cables. That's a sure way to shorten the life of a cable.

| | | | I live in fear of this now. Never thought about it before, but it's not too surprising. I've never lost a cable, actually during a show I was playing my guitarist musicman just for a change from my bass, and he backed up to me and stepped on my cable, which when I turned away it ripped right out. No damage at all to the cable, but it ripped the input right out of the bass. I'm keeping that cable for life if it can survive that. |

guillotine test' and 'jump rope test' of 9/97".
I don't know if that means a Paiste, etc., type cymbal would slice it .
Who in their right mind plays jump-rope with an instrument cable?
Is this somethin' roadies do when nobody's lookin' .
I got a bunch of different-colored ones. They're pretty solidly built and
reasonably priced. No experiences with cymbals but they have stood
up to a number of semi-feral kittens . at MF | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
