I have my Grandfather's Kay upright. I don't play it much, but when I do I'm always aware of the Legacy factor.
My Dad played the same bass for years......... Both of those gentlemen are gone now. I miss 'em. |

I by no means regret coming from the family I do. My father is a great man and he's contributed to many important aspects of my personality, even if music wasn't one of them. Still, I do get jealous of people who not only inherit sweet gear, but have a good story to go along with it. I could go out and buy an awesome vintage bass (and in fact I'm very proud of my 82 squier, from the year of my birth), but it's not quite as cool as getting it from somebody you love, and having strong associations based on that. |

There's a lot of history in an instrument like that, and I'm immensely glad my grandfather is still alive to see it continue to be gigged even to this day.

(obviously, he's a guitarist) that he loves, and I've spent years revering that gorgeous guitar... he doesn't play much anymore and he and I both know I HATE restringing righties hendrix style so he'll probably end up selling the thing. However, he bought me my Carvin AND my Hartke back about 12 years ago when I was playing jazz/funk bass in HS, so I guess that's something. |

Well, if it wasn`t for him I would have never started playing, so kudos to him and all the music parents out there | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
