So i had my first gig last night at a fire hall in a variety show (a little lame i guess, but you have to start somewhere). And it went off good, we played 3 songs by Metallica, Seek and Destroy, Am I Evil?, and For Whom The Bells Tolls. It was pretty funny, there were lots of older people there, and I don't think they were too found of the music but thats ok. We play sometime next week again. Wish us luck! |

Hey, they must've liked you, 'cause they're having you back, right?
How old were these older people? If they're, say, 40-55, try some Sabbath, and other old-school hard rock. That way, you satisfy your need for heaviness, and you'll play something more familiar to them that they'll enjoy.

+1
For the 55+ crowd another great old-school hard rocker is Sunshine of Your Love by Cream. It was released in 1967 so those 55+ were in high school at the time. Best of all, the main riff is the bass line and it is not too difficult to play.
Keep on gigging - the best way to get to better is to keep playing in front of people. It is amazing how much more focused my practicing gets when I have a gig coming up.

I had been playing in my highschool jazz band, concert band, and orchestra for years before that night. We played about almost an hour of RATM covers, and we rocked the place! The girl's parents liked us and some adults knew a few songs. We also threw in a quick Incubus medley that we contructed ourselves. We got all $50 for playing that night. But the thing I'll remember most is playing Vietnow... because the venue was in a VFW hall. |

I still am yet to find a 70's Morley Power Wah Boost. I found one on ebay but got outbidded on it at the last second . So at the moment I just play it with distortion, its not too bad but its still lacking. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
