First of all...

I disagree with ack. That is all there.

My girlfriend and I have very different tastes in music. When we started dating she stuck up her nose to my "silly metal bands" (including the band I'm in ). Last night (about three years after her country-only-music-snobbery) she was at my bands show rocking out with the female singer of another band that was playing after us. I even got her to go to an A7X concert a few months ago. Still trying to get her into Electric Wizard. All in good time... all in good time.

I feel for you man, that cover is... crap.
Lol, on a side note finding girls with similar taste is impossible when your most-well know favorite band is Led Zeppelin, and your favorite is Yes.

I like some Rush. I think most of the lyrics are crap, but their ability to play their instruments cannot be overlooked. They're all quite talented (Neil Peart is amazing), but someone needs to take the pen away from that band before they hurt someone.

As for the cover...well, it almost HAS to be better than the original.
I don't even know what to say without being totally rude but I will try. The reason many people don't like the lyrics in Rush songs is because they are not smart enough to comprehend them! Heaven forbid someone write a song about something other than sex or drugs! If you read much classic literature you would get more out of Neil's lyrics as many of them are based in poetry or other literary works.

Good call.

I never heard the lyrics - never got past the horrible vocal sound...

Nah, I don't think most people know, or even care, about lyrical meanings and whatnot. I'd say most people judge vocals on how they sound ... which is why I don't like Rush's vocals.

So then listen to some of their more recent stuff, not the stuff from the 70's. There's a HUGE difference.

At least she listens to music. Mine is that kind that when you ride in her car, you only hear the blinker signal. And every rock the car drives over.

Neil Peart writes all the lyrics. I agree, they're terrible. For me it makes them that much more likeable, though, considering their sound CAN be a little cheesy.

As for Tom Sawyer, you speak heresy.

Doesn't matter how seriously MSI take themselves. Silly bands can be fun but only if their music is tolerable. That was just loud and painful
