My 14 year old boy did his first gig last night.
6 bands, everything went smoothly with all involved.
My boys band really sounded great. I was so proud. The torch has been passed. He's on the bass of course.Attachment 124586

Congrats.

Sad to see that the guitarist has a Marshall half-stack. Hopefully he played tastefully enough to justify the equipment.

Awesome! So happy to hear that you are very supportive of him. My Dad was the same way except he plays piano and acoustic guitar. Now...my younger brother and I play electric bass.

Congrats! What songs did they play?

I had the distinct pleasure of watching my 9 year old perform last summer. He played drums and sang "Day Tripper" for the culminating concert at "Rock On" camp.

P.S. are you sedan_dad on the H.A.M.B. too?

It's a small world. I go by my real name over there: Miles.

Concerning the original songs they played - It's cool that they're already writing their own stuff!

Their originals were metal of course but the tone these little guys had was top shelf. Great riffs and solid grooves. They really raised eyebrows of the older folks there.
Now to steal a singer from one of the other bands. They were complaining that most of the singers were just grunting howlers. They do know what they want.
The only thing I did while I was there was to make sure they had a ballanced sound.

Sounds like he's a good player.

When I was about his age, I did my first gig.

My Dad came to the show. The door man said "sir, I don't think you want to come in here." My Dad says, "You're right, but my son is in the band."

He was actually very supportive but that still cracks me up.

Awesome. I hope my kids get more interested in bass/guitar. They could care less right now (ages 11 & 8).

Thats awesome, he would have had heaps of fun, but at least you made sure their sound was ok, my first gig one of the guitarists was mixed pretty much out.
Ohh and nice Ampeg rig you lent/got him

Let's hear for supportive parents! I'm here on TB as a bass techy and enthusiast, while helping my son however I can as he blossoms as a player and as an individual. Enjoy the ride. I still do.

Like 50 is the new 40, going to your son's first gig is like the little league of yesterday; except that they are writing their own tunes....very interesting.

I was going into a rehearsal hall this last week and some youths were being escorted out having made themselves a nuisance around a studio where a local phenom, Linda Vista, was playing. They came out of the door and plunked down on the sidewalk with very cheap guitars/bass in hands and starting playing as best they could, the licks they had just heard. I made me laugh, in a non-athletic hero worship kind of way, and made me sad, that after 40 years I'm still playing where kids hang out.

I'm thinking that might be a little young for a ten-pound, four foot tall instrument. Someday...
